This is the Wikipedia definition...and what a great idea to try it at work.

I wrote in a previous article about the natural connectedness that exist between humans...and how you build employee motivation and connectedness by breaking down those barriers.

An act of kindness are one of THE most effective ways of breaking down those barriers.

It has the ability to lift the spirit of the giver and receiver of the act of kindness. If you make someone else's day, you also make your own day in the process.

Somebody once mentioned that if you don’t like someone, do them a favor...it will be very difficult NOT to like them afterwords.

Ideas for Random Acts Of Kindness At Work...

  • Between departments: How about taking your department out of their normal routine for one day and offer to surprise another department by assisting to help them with their work load for that day.

It is a great team building exercise for both departments and will go a long way in breaking down barriers between departments.

  • Buy a big bunch of flowers or some sweets and surprise everyone by handing it out.

  • Randomly offer to help someone with some of their work, which is totally out of your job description.

  • Physically go to all the people who really mean something to you at work and thank them for it (don’t do this by e-mail...do it face to face)

  • Randomly ask someone who you have little interaction with at work if you can make them a cup of coffee or tea.

These examples are just to open your mind to doing it. There are loads more. In fact, if you open your mind to it, you will be filled with different ideas for random acts of kindness on a daily basis.
